Knox College turns 175

Knox College turned 175 years old Wednesday and planned to celebrate with, among other things, a showing of “Invasion of the Body Snatchers.”…The movie showing had a special meaning. The science-fiction classic was written by Knox alum Jack Finney. He graduated from Knox in 1934.

The school planned pub nights for graduates in cities such as Chicago, Denver, San Francisco, New York and London. It also planned to serve up a birthday cake in the university union… Activities continue through the month at Knox. Read more…

Knox celebrates world cultures

Knox College students from 48 states and 51 countries came together Saturday to recognize just how diverse they are. The 31st annual Knox College International Fair (I-Fair) culminated at the college Saturday with a day of international food prepared by students, a flag parade and ethnic dance performances…

Saturday’s festivities topped off a week of internationally oriented events, including a faculty lecture, a student-faculty forum about growing up international and the Knox Amazing Race, a sort of campus-wide, high-speed scavenger hunt that tests participants’ knowledge of international trivia…

Students, faculty, staff and Galesburg community members enjoyed the food prepared and served by club members, and some were surprised by the diversity of food available. “I live in a really diverse area,” Knox sophomore Jenna Cohen of Skokie said, “and I haven’t had food like this before.”… Read more…

Knox Presents International Fair, January 28

Knox College, one of the most internationally diverse liberal arts colleges in the nation, will host its 31st annual International Fair on Saturday, January 28. Along with international dining and entertainment, the College’s International Club will two present free, public lectures on this year’s theme, “Growing Up International,” providing insights from students and faculty who grew up outside the United States.

The fair on Saturday, January 28 features an international buffet lunch from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Seymour Union… Afternoon activities feature educational and cultural events starting at 1:30 in Ford Center for the Fine Arts… Read more…

Knox anniversary activities announced

Activities taking place in February, celebrating the 175th Anniversary of Knox College will include events taking place on February 15th, February 17th, February 19th and February 28th…

The 74th Alumni Achievement Awards will be taking place on February 17th. Knox will be honoring the 2012 Alumni Achievement Award winners on that night. They include Mary Lu Aft from the class of 1960; Lynn Wright from the class of 1963; Peter Leibig from the class of 1973; James Soloman from the class of 1974 and Norman Golar from the class of 2002… Read more…

Beaming Bioneers at Knox College

Knox College opened its doors last weekend (November 4-5) to all who are interested in Environmental issues. Presentations and events recorded at the 22nd annual Bioneers conference, held this year in San Rafael, CA and local presentations and events were available to all who wished to come and see and hear… I expected the Beaming Bioneers to dish up some environmental doom and gloom… What we took away was well worth the time we spent there…

Intensive dance program offered in August

The Oprheum Theatre has received a $5,000 pledge from Arts Midwest that will be used to support a week-long program for area dance students with a teacher from the Moscow Ballet.

Principle dancer/teacher Svetlana Todinova with the Moscow Ballet, which will be performing at the Orpheum in December, will be in Galesburg the first week of August. She will host an intensive program for approximately 40 area dance students at Harbach Theatre at Knox College, according to Orpheum President Kate Francis.

Knox will complement the dance instruction with workshops on physical therapy, dance history, nutrition, audition preparation, etc with local experts. The college will also provide lunch for participants. The week-long experience will culminate Aug. 5 with an evening meet and greet with Todinova and a student showcase at the Orpheum Theatre. This event will be free and open to the general public.
