Knox College Expands Its Boundaries

The Knox College Office of Communications will move into the former Alexander Lumber Co. building, 212 E. South St., in early September. Renovation is under way that will allow the office to be moved about one-half block from its current location in Borzello Hall, Cherry and South streets…

About the same time Knox was acquiring the buildings and space for the parking lot, individual communication offices for admissions, alumni affairs and other departments were consolidated into the new Office of Communications. Trustee John Podesta Interviewed on Charlie Rose

Charlie Rose hosts a discussion about Afghanistan with John Podesta, Knox College alum, trustee and former White House Chief of Staff; and Stephen Hadley, former National Security Advisor. Podesta and Hadley chaired a bipartisan committee that recently issued its report as an essay, “The Right Way Out of Afghanistan,” published in Foreign Affairs magazine…

The committee reported that “the military/security transition [from American control to Afghan control] was thought through, but the political/diplomatic/financial transition needed more development,” Podesta said. “Right now, there’s a need to get these things synchronized. We still have influence [in Afghanistan], but if we don’t use it now, the capacity of the Afghan government to function… when NATO troops come out… I’m highly skeptical that it can work…” Read more…

Knox College to add first woman president

Teresa Amott will become Knox College’s first woman president when she takes over the top leadership role at the private school…

Amott previously was provost and a dean at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, N.Y. She also served as vice provost at Gettysburg College in Gettysburg, Pa., from 2000 to 2005. Amott has a Ph.D. in economics from Boston College and a bachelor of arts from Smith College… The small college in Galesburg will install Amott as president in a ceremony on Saturday… Read more…

Knox College fund raising drive surpasses $5 million mark

Officials with Knox College recently announced gifts and pledges from donors that total $5-million that will go toward renovation of the College’s historic Alumni Hall. The fund raising drive is now halfway toward the estimated $10-million total to re-open the 123-year old building… Read more…
