Knox Formally Installs New President

Hobart and William Smith College president Mark Gearan joked as he introduced [Teresa] Amott Saturday, at a ceremony on the Knox College campus formally installing Amott as college president, following ten months on the job.

[Gearan said he wanted to tell listeners] “…how deeply resentful we are [at Hobart and William Smith Colleges], to all of you, how much we envy Knox College, for having Dr. Amott at the helm.”…

Knox Board of Trustees president Jan Koran said Amott has done a lot for the campus already, things that Koran admits the board may or may not have been ready for… Amott herself talked about improving technology and sustainability in the years to come, and making the campus even more diverse than it already is.

Amott used the ceremony to announce a new partnership that will give students a valuable experience… “I am pleased to announce a new partnership with the Galesburg Community Foundation, that will place Knox graduates and undergraduates in service positions at Galesburg community agencies…” Read more…

Knox students among newspaper award winners

The Register-Mail took 34 awards in the 2012 Illinois Associated Press Editors Association News and Photo Contest… One of these first place finishes was a Knox College project, “Maytag in Transition,” that was published in The Register-Mail.

The Knox News Team won first place for Enterprise Series. Marilyn Webb, distinguished professor of journalism, directed the project that looked at the lives of those who lost their jobs when Maytag closed in 2004.

“Many students, faculty and staff worked hard to bring this series to our readers,” Martin said. “We benefit from a good relationship with a strong journalism program right in our backyard.”… Read more…

Knox College to add first woman president

Teresa Amott will become Knox College’s first woman president when she takes over the top leadership role at the private school…

Amott previously was provost and a dean at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, N.Y. She also served as vice provost at Gettysburg College in Gettysburg, Pa., from 2000 to 2005. Amott has a Ph.D. in economics from Boston College and a bachelor of arts from Smith College… The small college in Galesburg will install Amott as president in a ceremony on Saturday… Read more…
