James Clark was the head baseball coach at Spoon River College for the 2010 and 2011 seasons and recently stepped down as the head baseball coach at Eureka College… to continue his pursuit of a Master’s Degree in sports management at Western Illinois University. Clark, who played baseball for Post 727 and the Tigers before he continued his playing career at Knox College, said it was only natural he became a head baseball coach.
Clark, a 2009 Knox graduate who played mainly first base and designated hitter, said he settled on the idea of being a head baseball coach when he was a member of the Jami Isaacson-led Prairie Fire. “I wanted to do something in athletics and throughout college I decided to coach,” he said. “Coach Isaacson let me pick his brain about the game and told me how to go about getting a job…” Read more…

Earlier this month, Knox College psychologists Gail Ferguson and Christy Starr released troubling findings showing that girls as young as age six view themselves as sexual objects. The new study is the first to identify self-sexualization in young girls. The study, published online July 6 in the journal Sex Roles, used two differently dressed paper dolls, one dressed provocatively and the other in normal attire. When asked which doll the young girls wanted to look like, 68 percent of the girls indicated the provocatively dressed doll; 72 percent indicated that the sexy doll “was more popular than the non-sexy doll.” …

The Gilbert and Sullivan musical extravaganza and comic operetta, “The Pirates of Penzance,” will be performed by Prairie Players Civic Theater at the Orpheum Theatre Friday through Sunday… “We have some wonderfully talented Knox students who are applying their education by designing the costumes, serving as stage manager, actors, and sound design.
