Knox College wrestling coach Tony Islas is holding his Wrestling Technique Camp, July 13-15, at the T. Fleming Fieldhouse. The camp is intended for wrestlers entering 7th through 12 grades during the 2012-2013 school year.

Elvith Santoyo is a young woman with big dreams. Just 25 years old, the June Knox College graduate is assuming ownership of Acapulco Restaurant, 1576 N. Henderson St. The business, which opened in 2006, was formerly owned by her parents, Victor and Maria Santoyo.
The new owner has worked at the restaurant featuring southeastern Mexican cuisine since it opened, She is having the interior and exterior repainted. It has been closed since July 4. The goal is to reopen Thursday. Her parents were ready to retire. “They were just planning on closing down,” Santoyo said. Her father gave her the opportunity to take over ownership. “All the time and money they put into it, I thought, ‘why not?’” she said. “It will be a lot of hard work.”… Read more…

An award-winning investigation by Knox College journalism students, The Maytag Project, earned two additional top statewide prizes in June at the annual joint convention of the Illinois Press Association and the Illinois Associated Press Editors Association. The students’ work competed against work produced by professional journalists, and judges described The Maytag Project as taking a “truly unique approach to a huge regional story.” Read more…

There is evidence the first officially organized team in Galesburg was the Barbers who played in the early 1890s… Both Knox and Lombard colleges dabbled at the sport during the late 1890s, but their games were generally played between campus students… The popularity of local baseball increased dramatically in the early 1900s when the six team semi professional league was formed… League games were played on the Knox baseball field… Knox College dropped baseball in the 1930s and didn’t resume competition until 20 years later… Read more…
