Knox students’ Maytag Project honored

Work done by Knox College journalism students to gauge the impact on employees after the Maytag plant closed in Galesburg in 2004 has received statewide recognition. The Maytag Project, which sought to find out how workers fared since the closing of the refrigeration plant that operated for 100 years in Galesburg, earned two prizes from the Illinois Press Association at the group’s convention in June.

Published in the Galesburg Register-Mail as a 17-part, six-day series, “Maytag Employees in Transition” was recognized as best entry across all categories and received a first-place prize in the enterprise series category… Read more…
