Knox Grads Promote Higher Ed to Students

As the school year drew to a close in [Galesburg], 9 and 10-year-olds in Jordan Lanfair’s fourth-grade class at Silas Willard School class finished the month-long When I Grow Up Project mentored by DeAndre Henderson of the Illinois Student Assistance Commission Corps. The project gets kids thinking about college as early as possible. But as Henderson explained, the project showed them what they have to do to apply to a school, what different college campuses look like and how a college education can help make them more well-rounded individuals.

“As a college graduate I know how much college did in my life… This job allows me to give back to the community as well as be able to reach students on an individual basis,” said Henderson, who graduated from Knox College in 2010… To get the When I Grow Up Project off the ground, Henderson reached out to Lanfair.
