Zoning Panel Approves Knox “Greenhouse” Plan

Galesburg’s Planning and Zoning Commission has approved [a zoning code change that will allow Knox College and Growing Together to build] high tunnel structures for agricultural uses on their property. Knox College will build such a structure on its land, and Growing Together Inc. will construct a structure at 820 E. Fifth St. Growing Together Inc. was founded by Knox professor and Alderman Peter Schwartzman, Ward 5, to produce more local and sustainable food for the community.

The one at Knox College will be used for educational purposes and will also be under the watch of Schwartzman. High tunnel structures allow for an extension of the growing season by as many as four months.
