Smithsonian to Feature Alum’s Documentary

A documentary by Knox College graduate Indira Somani, “Crossing Lines,” will be featured in the Smithsonian Institution’s traveling exhibit, “Beyond Bollywood: Indian Americans Shape the Nation”… The traveling exhibit opens a five-year run across the U.S. later this year as part of the Indian American Heritage Project.

Somani graduated from high school in Springfield, Illinois, then carved out her own major at Knox College, combining African-American and Asian-American studies, along with women’s studies and the media. “Those played to my strengths,” said Somani. “Knox College was a place where professors got to know you and you got personal attention, which was a key to learning.” …Somani worked as a TV news producer for 10 years before going into academia… Somani was a recipient of one of Knox College’s Alumni Achievement Awards presented recently as part of the campus’ Founders Day Convocation in Galesburg… Read more…
