The Galesburg Portrait Project, by John Bakker, artist-in-residence at Knox College, was unveiled at The Box art gallery downtown Thursday evening. Also at the event, the Heart & Soul project collected information from the community to develop a plan aimed at changing things for the better…
Bakker, who created the 24-foot mural of 318 portraits representing the young and old, black and white, rich and poor of Galesburg, said portraits are a symbol of who is important in a community, and by painting all these pictures, he hoped to “remind people that they matter.”
