As the recipient of an honorary degree from Knox College gets ready to become the third president to hold the distinction, the college is preparing for its 164th commencement exercises.
Although the structure of the ceremony doesn’t change much from year to year, one of the things that does differ is the person who delivers the commencement address. After four years of big-name speakers, the Class of 2009 has some big shoes to fill for its June ceremony.
The last few years have brought to Galesburg President-elect Barack Obama, then a U.S. Senator from Illinois; “The Colbert Report” host Stephen Colbert; former President Bill Clinton; and, last year, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.
