Feast of cultures: Sights, smells and sounds a treat for the senses at International Fair

From the Register-Mail:

Knox College was a feast of colors and flavors Saturday as students came together for the annual International Fair.

Aromas of pungent Ghanian curries, sweet German pastries and steaming miso soup mingled for an event that offered all in attendance a dazzling spin around the globe….

Ghandi and Patl’s stall showed how village life in India, and also Nepal and Pakistan, exists in harmony with the environment. “The village way of life is very sustainable,” he said. His was one of many stalls at the I-Fair that showed examples of green living, the theme of this year’s event, in other countries and cultures.

Anyone who attended Saturday’s I-Fair was missing a trick if they didn’t leave with their bellies full of exotic fare. Karime Daoudi dished out delicious stuffed grape leaves on the Palestinian stall, along with pita bread and hummous.

The powerfully flavored Ghanian stall was a particular treat. Ama Kyeremater and Celestine Agyejum said the food, which ranged from grilled chicken to spicy stews, offered a glimpse of a typical Ghanian meal.
