KGS takes on short, sophisticated works

From the Register-Mail:

The Knox-Galesburg Symphony’s annual “Celebrate Mom at the Pops” concert year is a tribute this year to one of the masters of light orchestral music.

The concert, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, is a “Centennial Tribute to Leroy Anderson,” composer of such works as “Belle of the Ball,” “Blue Tango,” “Bugler’s Holiday” and “The Typewriter.”….

Nicole Malley, director of Jazz Studies at Knox College, will narrate Saturday’s concert, providing snippets about Anderson’s life and career and providing context for the music performed by the symphony. Malley has performed throughout central Illinois with groups including the Knox Jazz Ensemble, the Knox Cherry St. Jazz Combo, the Knox-Galesburg Symphony, the Knox-Sandburg Community Concert Band, the Knox String Ensemble, the Knox College Choir, the Nova Singers, as well as with numerous jazz artists in Illinois.
