The Knox-Galesburg Symphonyâ€™s annual â€œCelebrate Mom at the Popsâ€ concert year is a tribute this year to one of the masters of light orchestral music.
The concert, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, is a â€œCentennial Tribute to Leroy Anderson,â€ composer of such works as â€œBelle of the Ball,â€ â€œBlue Tango,â€ â€œBuglerâ€™s Holidayâ€ and â€œThe Typewriter.â€….
Nicole Malley, director of Jazz Studies at Knox College, will narrate Saturdayâ€™s concert, providing snippets about Andersonâ€™s life and career and providing context for the music performed by the symphony. Malley has performed throughout central Illinois with groups including the Knox Jazz Ensemble, the Knox Cherry St. Jazz Combo, the Knox-Galesburg Symphony, the Knox-Sandburg Community Concert Band, the Knox String Ensemble, the Knox College Choir, the Nova Singers, as well as with numerous jazz artists in Illinois.
