Group presents ‘A Nova Christmas’

he Nova Singers will perform its most popular concert of the year, the annual Christmas concert, at 7:30 p.m. Friday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport, Iowa, and 7:30 p.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church in Galesburg.

Titled “A Nova Christmas,” the concert will feature a variety of Christmas tunes from traditional carols to more contemporary pieces. The choir will also perform new takes on old classics, like “The First Noel” and “We Three Kings” by jazz guru Darmon Meader.

The concert also will play host to the world premiere of a works by Galesburg composer Daniel Godsil, “Choral Meditation on Lo, How a Rose.”

“We are so fortunate to have talent like Daniel’s right here in Galesburg,” said Laura Lane, Nova Singers artistic director and director of choirs at Knox College. “I honestly think this will be the best Christmas program we’ve ever given.”

Nova Singers will be joined by youth choirs for both of their Christmas performances. In Davenport, the guest choir is the Sudlow Select Choir, under the direction of Diane Carius. In Galesburg, Nova will be joined by the Carl Sandburg Children’s Choir, directed by Jessica Stiller.
