Rob Purlee broke down the situation for the beleaguered Knox College men’s basketball program clearly to Tanner Carlson.
“He was a point guard looking for a team to run,” the second-year Knox head coach said, “And I have a team looking for a point guard to run it.”
The two sides got what they wanted Thursday when the three-time all-stater out of Annawan High School finalized his transfer from Division III powerhouse Wisconsin-Platteville to Knox.
A 6-foot guard, Carlson was among the top small-school prospects in the state two years ago after setting the Annawan career scoring record with 2,045 points. Carlson averaged more than 20 points for three years during a golden run for the Braves.
As such, Carlson had major Division III schools such as Augustana and Wisconsin-Platteville courting him out of high school.
