From the Register-Mail:
The Orpheum Theatre received a $30,000 commitment from the Galesburg Downtown Council for its ongoing renovation efforts Wednesday.
Orpheum president Kate Francis ratcheted up fundraising efforts last year in an effort to apply for a federal “Save America’s Treasures” grant of $500,000, which required organizations to match the grant money. The effort was unsuccessful, but $263,000 was pledged.
Galesburg Downtown Council’s recent donation would bring the total amount pledged just shy of $300,000.
“And even though the Orpheum did not receive the federal grant, these local charitable commitments provide substantial funding to address the critical heating, cooling and facade issues the theater continues to face,” Francis said in news release.
In addition to the Galesburg Downtown Council, other donors includes the city of Galesburg, Knox College, Carl Sandburg College and the Galesburg Community Foundation.
