Knox planning more sports facilities upgrades


Knox College athletic director Chad Eisele has been on the job since May 2006 and he’s overseen a number of improvements already. A new wrestling complex and outdoor track have been completed. Construction of a new soccer field is underway.

The next big item on his to-do list is the installation of synthetic turf at the Knox Bowl. The project has been discussed for several years and by the 2008 football season rolls around, it could become a reality.

The Knox College football team has practiced in the middle of the track at Trevor Field for years to avoid significant wear and tear to the grass football field. With the addition of synthetic turf, Knox football coach Andy Gibbons and his team won’t have to avoid the Knox Bowl until Saturdays anymore.

“The whole project is super exciting,” Gibbons said. “The great thing is it’s grass-like and not like old style AstroTurf. No matter what the elements, whether its rain or snow, we can play on the surface. Practicing on the field is big too.”
