A once desolate lot on West Tompkins street is now blooming with life, and most of it is edible.
The Mound Community Farm, which has transformed a vacant lot at 447 W. Tompkins St. into a font of organic food, celebrated its one-year anniversary Saturday.
Knox College professor Peter Schwartzman bought the lot and put a lot of work into it. The toil has paid off, as evidenced by the bounty of vegetables consumed when people gathered there Saturday to admire the garden, or farm, as Schwartzman prefers to call it.
â€œItâ€™s a community garden but I prefer to call it a farm because it produces things you can eat,â€ he said.
