Six thousand people gathered at Knox College in Galesburg Saturday to hear from former President Bill Clinton.
Clinton received an honorary degree and gave the commencement address.
He had many well wishes for the graduates, and also found many similarities between himself and the very first person to receive the honorary degree at Knox- Abraham Lincoln.
Drawing cheers from the massive crowd- the 42nd president of the United States had many words of wisdom for the class of 2007.
“Citizens of today have more power to do public good than ever before with out regard to their politics,” said Clinton.
Often looking back in time- Clinton drew from the most famous person to ever speak there at Old Main- Abraham Lincoln.
Lincoln himself was the first to get an honorary degree from the college- back in 1860.
“The truth is that’s why he got this honorary degree- your college was trying to help him get elected, and you wanted to give him a little boost- 146 years later you gave Stephen Colbert a degree to give his ratings a boost,” said Clinton.
