Knox could name new president Monday

From The Register-Mail:

Months ahead of schedule, Knox College may be announcing its new president as early as Monday, leaving plenty of time for some overlap before President Roger Taylor retires June 30.

“The search committee will present its recommendation at the board meeting this weekend,” said Richard Riddell, Knox Presidential Search Committee chair and Knox College trustee.

Riddell, who also serves as vice president and university secretary of Duke University, was in Galesburg on Friday in preparation for the Knox College Board of Trustees meeting. He verified that the board is ultimately responsible for making the final decision.

In the event the board elects a president, an announcement and introduction of Knox’s 19th president will be at 11 a.m. Monday, and a reduced class schedule will be implemented to allow for campus-wide participation.

The three finalists visited Knox last month, touring the campus and Galesburg and participating in a series of meetings with faculty, students, staff and a select group of Galesburg community members.

In his latest update on the Knox College website, Riddell wrote that while there were clear differences between the three finalists, the committee considers all three to be strong candidates for the Knox presidency.

Throughout the search process, Riddell has stressed to participants a level of secrecy regarding the candidates’ identities, as the two who are not elected president will have to continue in their present positions.

“We didn’t want to do anything to undermine their ability to lead on their current campuses,” wrote Riddell. “The Knox community did a terrific job engaging with each other about the candidates — lots of discussion — while being discreet about the identities of the candidates and refraining from sending any electronic messages about the candidates.”
