Knox coach has close ties to rival Monmouth College

A week ago, Knox College men’s basketball coach Rob Purlee led his team into Glennie Gymnasium [at nearby rival Monmouth College] for a big win over the Fighting Scots. The 2004 graduate of Monmouth College took time to reflect on what it means to go back to his alma-matre not only as a coach, but as a proud alumnus. [Purlee’s parents and wife are Monmouth graduates, and] Purlee was a senior captain in basketball. [In football] he was on top of every category attainable from the quarterback position.

[After graduating, he served as an assistant coach at Monmouth.] Then in 2006, Purlee landed the head coaching job [in basketball at Knox,] the school he had played against so many times. The acquisition hasn’t seemed to sour anyone’s opinion of him back at Monmouth, though. “Every time I go back, my reception is great,” said Purlee. “I get treated very well there.” Read more…
