Alum is choral director

Ten years ago, Susan Shoemaker and her late husband, John, decided Macomb (Illinois) should be the place where one can hear major choral works performed. “That night we drove back from Iowa City in the early months of 2002 after hearing an inspiring concert of a major work,” said Shoemaker, director of the McDonough Choral Society, “and the subject came up of how we never had heard any major choral works in our wonderful city of Macomb.”

The McDonough Choral Society will hold its 10th anniversary concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Wesley United Methodist Church… Shoemaker herself has spent many years learning and teaching choral music. After receiving music degrees from Knox College and Northwestern University, she taught music for 18 years in public schools.
