The Knox-Galesburg Symphony (KGS) will feature seventeen-year- Maury Cohn, son of Knox professors, Nancy Eberhardt and Steve Cohn, at its 60th Anniversary concert on Saturday, Feb. 25, at 7:30 p.m. at the Orpheum Theatre, Galesburg.
The Knox-Galesburg Symphony, under the direction of Bruce Polay (music) will perform Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6 in F Major “Pastorale,” Opus 68 and Gallagher’s “A Quiet Musicke,” a KGS International Call for Scores selection. Cohn will perform Saint-Saëns Concerto No. 1 for Violoncello and Orchestra in A minor, Opus 33.
Cohn, a senior at Galesburg High School, began cello studies with KGS principal cellist Carolyn Suda at age four. He began performing with the KGS Music Memories educational outreach program at age fourteen, and is now in his third season performing as a KGS section cellist. Cohn has also performed with the Illinois All-State Orchestra, the Galesburg Community Chorus, and is principal cellist of the Monmouth Chamber Orchestra.
