I write to remind you that the final exam schedule for winter term ends only at the end of the day Saturday, March 10. Please do not, if you have final examinations on Saturday, schedule your departure from campus before your last examination is over. Thank you.
Knox celebrates Black History Month 2012 with events both on and off-campus. Activities in Galesburg include entertainment featuring hip-hop poet Black Ice and performances by Knox College students and lectures by Owen Muelder, director of the Galesburg Colony Underground Railroad Freedom Station at Knox College. Black History Month events at Knox are sponsored by the student club ABLE — Allied Blacks for Liberty and Equality.
The Orpheum Theatre presents “Doubt” on Sunday, Feb. 19 at 3 p.m. Doubt tells the story of the charismatic Father Flynn who begins a sermon by asking “What do you do when you’re not sure?” From that moment on, Doubt’s audience is forced to question whether Father Flynn is using his position as teacher and coach to encourage youngsters or to take advantage of them? And is the hard-headed Sister Aloysius, the school principal, protecting children from harm, or is she falsely accusing an innocent man of a shocking betrayal of trust? The Buchanan Center for the Arts, 64 Public Square, Monmouth, will feature an exhibit, “Intersections,” by Joshua Bindewald and Rob Reed Feb. 17-March 31. An opening reception will be held on Friday, Feb. 17 from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. For more information, call 309-734-3033.
Nova Singers, under the direction of Laura Lane (music), presents two performances of Sun & Moon, Sea & Sky, Saturday, Feb. 11 at 7:30 pm, at First Lutheran Church, Galesburg, and Sunday, Feb. 12 at 4 p.m., at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Davenport. Nova Singers will also be joined by local high school singers for our annual Project Sing! performances. The 2012 guests include students from the Macomb High School Concert Choir, directed by Melanie Butcher, performing in the Galesburg concert, and students from the Moline High School Concert Choir, directed by Ron May, performing in the Davenport concert. Tickets are available at the door. Admission is $16 for adults and $12 for seniors. Students are admitted free of charge. Knox Alumni Ambassadors are recruiting! The main purpose of this group is to assist Knox College and the Office of Advancement in interaction with students, parents, alumni and friends. Events and commitments include serving as student representatives at Advancement events, including Homecoming, reunions, student send-off picnics, Founders Day, Commencement, and other events and receptions on and off campus.
