The following four stories have been selected as Knox Finalists for the 2012 Nick Adams Competition sponsored by the 14 member colleges of the Associated Colleges of the Midwest (ACM): Kate Barrett’s “Fishes and Loaves”; Dave Brankin’s “Water on Water, or the Rain on the Ground”; Julia Ohman’s “When the Leaving is Done”; Christopher Poore’s “Empties.” These four stories were sent on to the next level of the competition.
In addition, two stories were recognized as Knox Semifinalists: Chris Bakka’s “Lineaments” and Erik Hane’s “Burial.”
The committee also recognizes these stories as Knox Honorable Mentions: Sam Butler’s “Strawman”; Linda Kim’s “정체 (Identity)”; Maisie Maupin’s “Something to Do With”; Isabella Odin’s “Rainbow”; Saska Pellnat’s “Feeding Time”; Michelle Steffens’s “How to Give Good Head.”
A Knox faculty committee selected these stories from many outstanding entries. Over the past 39 years of the Nick Adams Competition, Knox has won more first place awards than any other ACM college and twice as many ACM Finalist designations as its nearest competitor. The final two rounds of this year’s competition will be judged by an ACM faculty committee and by distinguished author Gina Frangelico.
