On the evening of Friday, May 11, students of the Knox Rotaract Club, affiliated with Rotary International, are sponsoring a dinner/dance in the Lincoln Room to raise funds for Rotary’s Polio Plus campaign.
There will be a cash bar/social hour starting at 5:30, a buffet dinner at 6, and music for your listening or dancing pleasure at 7 provided by the Cherry Street Combo. Polio Plus is a Rotary project that has been in progress since 1985, and during that time Rotary has helped raised nearly a billion dollars in an effort to rid the world of polio. During that time the incidence of polio has dropped from as many as 50,000 cases a year to 650 cases in 2011. With the country of India recently certified as being polio-free (having had no new cases in over a year) there are only 3 remaining polio-endemic countries in the world: Nigeria, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. Eliminating polio in these remaining countries presents some clear challenges, but Rotary and it’s partners in the campaign are committed to making it happen.
Please consider coming to the Rotaract dinner/dance, enjoy a great evening, and support the effort. Contact Chuck Schulz for your tickets, (Ext. 7397) which are available for $25 each. Checks can be made out to “Galesburg Sunrise Rotary”.
