The Knox-Galesburg (KGS) will present a Mother’s Day tribute with its annual “Celebrate Mom at the Pops” concert under the direction of Bruce Polay. The KGS Saturday, May 12 concert narrated by radio air personality Terry Cavanaugh will feature “The Best of Broadway” medleys from previous KGS Pops concerts. The concert, which begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Orpheum Theatre, will include selections from “Phantom of the Opera,” “Fiddler on the Roof,” “South Pacific,” “The King and I,” “Sound of Music” and other Broadway show tune favorites filling the evening with memorable melodies. The program “selections” are from many of the most famous musicals on record. Each of these medleys is famous in its own way for bringing to light popular songs that have bridged the years with fond and poignant memories. Terry Cavanaugh’s comments, interspersed between each of the selections will highlight interesting historical commentary aimed at reminding all of the wonder and genius of this glorious art form.
Tickets, starting as low as $8, are available at the Orpheum Theatre Office, 250 East Main Street in Galesburg or at the door. Children and students are half price. Knox Students 1/2 Price with ID. Discounts not applicable.
