Knox’s weekly Jazz Night at McGillacuddy’s Restaurant, 58 S. Cherry Street in Galesburg, will feature a free, public concert by the Dan Cray Group on Thursday, June 14.
Cray and his combo will perform from 10 p.m. to midnight. Led by Cray on piano, the group includes Noah Preminger, tenor saxophone, who was the guest artist at this year’s Rootabaga Jazz Festival; Clark Sommers, bass; and Matt Carroll, drums.
A pianist and composer, Cray brings a lyrical, modern sensitivity to jazz standards and emotional resonance to his original compositions. Cray is currently an adjunct professor of music at New York University. Cray has released five recordings, with his newest, Meridies, issued in March.
Opening for the Dan Cray Group is the Knox Faculty Jazz Combo, performing from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The combo features Kevin Malley, saxophone; Dave Hoffman, trumpet; Daniel Leahy, piano; Hannah Malley, bass; Nikki Malley, vibraphone; and Manuel Lopez III, drums.
Jazz Night is presented by the Knox Jazz Studies Program every Thursday night from 8 p.m. to midnight, in cooperation with McGillacuddy’s in Galesburg.
