Communications Office Seeks Writers

Gain significant professional experience by joining the Knox College Office of Communications as a writer. Writers conduct interviews and do other research to produce articles that will be published on the Knox website. Strong nonfiction writing and proofreading skills are required. Playwriting Awards to be Announced, May 22

On Thursday, May 22, at 4 p.m. in the Alumni Room, Old Main, Tim Evans, longtime Steppenwolf Theatre producer, co-founder of Steppenwolf Films and executive director of Northlight Theatre, will announce the winners of this year’s Davenport playwriting awards.

Evans produced the 2008 feature films Diminished Capacity with Matthew Broderick, Alan Alda and Louis CK, and The Last Rites of Joe May (2011) with Dennis Farina, and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the League of Chicago Theatres.

McNair Scholars Present Research Proposals, May 22

Nine McNair Scholars will present their research proposals on Thursday, May 22, at 4 p.m., in the Umbeck Science and Math Center, Room E-117. Those presenting are: Louisa Darko, Anthony Foley, Stephanie Holley, Teresa Jackson, Eve Martinez, Juanpablo Ramirez, Jari Ramos-Orbe, Elizabeth Reyes and Tawni Sasaki.

Medieval Love Stories–Earthly and Divine, May 20

The Classics Club is sponsoring a Reading Tuesday, May 20 at 4 p.m. in the Round Room, Ford Center for the Fine Arts.
Bill Levitan will read from his recent translation of the Letter of Abelard and Heloise (Hackett Press) and Stan Lombardo, highly acclaimed translator of Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey, will read from his new translation of Dante’s Divine Comedy (Hackett Press).

String Ensemble Concert, May 20

The Knox College String Ensemble will present their spring concert on Tuesday, May 20, at 7 p.m. in Kresge Recital Hall, Ford Center for the Fine Arts. The concert is free and open to the public.
