Auditions Set for “A Christmas Story: The Musical”

Prairie Players Civic Theatre will hold auditions for A Christmas Story: The Musical on Thursday, September 4, from 6 – 8 pm and Saturday, September 6, from 2 – 5 pm at the Prairie Players building, located at 160 South Seminary Street, Galesburg, Illinois. Minimum cast requirements are eight men, seven women, and seven boys and four girls, 3rd grade and older. Children auditioning must be accompanied by a parent.

Based on the holiday film, the musical version of A Christmas Story has all the classic scenes from the movie: Flick getting his tongue stuck to a flag pole, Randy getting dressed in his snowsuit, the leg lamp award, the bunny suit, the Chinese restaurant, and more. A Christmas Story: The Musical had its Broadway debut on November 5, 2012 and received Tony Award nominations for Best Musical, Best Book, and Best Score of a musical.

Director Judy Diemer and Vocal Director River Stanford have divided auditions into three parts: music, reading, and stage movement. Those auditioning are asked to prepare a short song (an accompanist will be provided), wear comfortable clothing for stage movement, and do readings from the script. Scripts will not be available prior to auditions.

Performances will be at the Galesburg Orpheum Theatre on Friday and Saturday, November 21 and 22, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, November 23, at 3 p.m., following the Christmas Parade.
