The Knox-Galesburg Symphony will feature acclaimed pianist Lisa Leonard at its April 25 subscription concert finale. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Orpheum Theatre, in Galesburg.
Under the direction of KGS artistic director/conductor Bruce Polay, the Knox-Galesburg Symphony will perform Dvorak’s Symphony No. 5 in E minor “From the New World” and Torke’s “Adjustable Wrench.” Leonard will perform Grieg’s Concerto in A minor, Opus 16 on the West Music concert Steinway underwritten by Carl Sandburg College.
Hailed as a pianist who “communicates deep artistic understanding….powerful and virtuosic technique,” Lisa Leonard enjoys a diverse career as a soloist, chamber musician and educator.
At age 17, Leonard made her debut with the National Symphony Orchestra in six concerts at the Kennedy Center. She has appeared with orchestras throughout Europe, Japan, Russia, and North America, including recent performances with the Oregon Mozart Players, Williamsburg Symphony and the Simon Bolivar Orchestra of Venezuela. An active chamber musician, she has performed with members of the Berlin, Vienna, New York, Cleveland and Cincinnati Symphonies in addition to collaborations with the American and Mendelssohn String Quartets and the Empire Brass Quintet in performances featured on National Public Radio’s “Performance Today” and “Command Performance” programs.

Tickets are still available for the May 9 “Celebrate Mom at the Pops” concert with “Music from the Great American Songwriters” featuring arrangements by David Hoffman and the KGS Combo. Knox College student vocalists Paula Castanos, Michiko Li, Caitlyn Morgan, and Hayle Richter will also perform.
At 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 25, at the Orpheum Theatre, KGS soloist Lisa Leonard, KGS artistic director/conductor Bruce Polay and James Hutchings, coordinator of music at Carl Sandburg College will host Music Mornings and present awards to winners of the 22nd Annual KGS Young Pianists Competition who will perform on the concert Steinway. Music Mornings, a FREE concert preview program for children ages preschool through fifth grade, is co-sponsored by the Knox-Galesburg Symphony and the Galesburg Public Library in cooperation with Galesburg School District 205. Music Mornings Incentive Awards will also be presented. Winners and honorable mention winners will also perform in a public recital at Knox College’s Kresge Recital Hall on Sunday, April 26 at 3:00 p.m.
