Gilbert Receives Dedalus Foundation Fellowship

Gregory Gilbert, Art and Art History, has been awarded the Dedalus Foundation Visiting Scholar at the Archives of American Art Fellowship for 2015. The Dedalus Foundation is the foundational center in New York City dedicated to the Abstract Expressionist artist Robert Motherwell. 2015 is Motherwell’s centenary year and the Dedalus Foundation has planned a series of major fellowships, exhibitions and publications to celebrate this event. Gilbert’s fellowship involves a research residency this summer at the Archives of American Art in Washington D.C. and the Dedalus Foundation in New York. Gilbert will also lecture at a major symposium on Motherwell to be held December 2015 in Washington, D.C.

Gilbert’s research project is titled “Pragmatism and American Poetics in the Early of Art of Robert Motherwell.” He has published and lectured extensively on Motherwell, which includes articles and reviews in the Oxford Art Journal, Art Journal and the German intellectual journal Sehepunkte. He was also commissioned this year to author the entry on Motherwell in the Routledge Encyclopedia of Modernism.
