The Midwest Conference Champion Prairie Fire women’s soccer team is heading to the NCAA Tournament for the second year in a row! They are scheduled to take on Wheaton College (IL) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, November 10 at Loras College.

Please join us TODAY, Thursday, November 9 at 12:15 p.m. along the front drive of Alumni Hall to give the team an enthusiastic send-off as they depart campus for Dubuque, Iowa.

Tim Kasser (Psychology) gave an invited webinar (virtually) via the International Society for Quality of Life Studies; the webinar was titled “How an Activist Researcher became a Cartoon Character: HyperCapitalism, Values, & Quality of Life.” The webinar can be viewed here.

Monica Berlin (English) has published two new poems. “Dear January,” and “[What we say in the dark could say]” appear in the most recent issue of Zone 3 (fall 2017).

Lombard’s Paintings reviewed, other new shows

Work by Lynnette Lombard (Art) was reviewed by John Goodrich in Painting Perceptions. Painting Perceptions – commentary on perceptual painting

At College of William and Mary, Andrews Gallery: Lombard’s work is on exhibit as part of Midwest Paint Group show: East Meets Midwest II: A New Figuration Oct 12-Nov 10, 2017.

Her works will also be part of Drawing from Perception VIII curated by Catherine Kehoe, January 16 through February 25, 2018 at the Wright State University Creative Arts Center, in the Robert & Elaine Stein Galleries.

Lombard gave a talk on her work at the Riverfront Museum, Peoria, Illinois, on Oct 29. This talk was in conjunction with Emergence exhibit: Emergence: The National Arts of Central Illinois – Peoria Riverfront

McAndrew Essays Published

Frank McAndrew (Psychology) authored a Halloween-related essay titled “How the God You Worship Influences the Ghosts You See.” The essay appeared in several dozen different news outlets including Quartz, The Raw Story, The Conversation, The Chicago Tribune, The Los Angeles Times, & The Houston Chronicle. McAndrew also has an essay in the November/December print issue of Psychology Today Magazine. The title of this essay is “4 Subtle, Underestimated Markers of Female Beauty.”
