Stewart Attended Workshop in Berlin

Katie Stewart (Political Science & International Relations) attended a workshop on “Urban Activism and the Development of Civil Society in the Russian Federation” at Indiana University’s Europe Gateway in Berlin. Organized by the Russian Studies Workshop at IU, the workshop brought together an interdisciplinary group of scholars to discuss the causes, forms, and consequences of Russian activism. Stewart’s paper, “Cultural Production as Activism: National Theaters, Orchestras, and Clubs in Russia‚Äôs Regional Capitals,” examines the ways in which people can utilize cultural institutions and practices to engage in activism when the opportunities for overt political action, such as protest, are constrained.
