Historical Statistics of the United States

Filed under: Databases, Reference — Laurie Sauer @ 4:31 pm

The Library is pleased to announce the purchase of Historical Statistics of the United States Millennial Edition Online from Cambridge University Press. Considered the definitive source of statistics for U.S. history, this online version of the 5-volume print edition was released in 2006. The work is divided into 5 subject areas: population; work & welfare; economic structure & performance; economic sectors; and governance & international relations. Coverage ranges from 1800 to 2000, however some areas go back to 1610 or forward to 2002.

This online reference work allows for enhanced data manipulation:

  • Downloadable and customizable data to suit individual areas of interest
  • Download tables in Excel or CSV; can also download entire groups of tables as a zip file
  • Create custom tables; merge columns from multiple tables to create custom tables, which can also be downloaded, printed, or graphed

A site tour is available to learn more about the powerful features of Historical Statistics of the United States. This purchase was made possible with a generous subsidy from CARLI, the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois.
