  • A Century of Lawmaking for a New Nation: U.S. Congressional Documents and Debates 1774-1873 is part of the Library of Congress’s American Memory project. It is a collection of primary source material including U.S. Statutes at Large for the first through the seventeenth Congress, Senate and House Journals, Journals of the Continental Congress, and more.
  • Find-It! Illinois is the portal to Illinois government information from the Secretary of State’s office.
  • FindLaw is the largest gateway to internet resources in law. Use the subject categories or search by keyword.
  • GPO (via FirstSearch) indexes documents produced by the U.S. Government Printing Office database and contains records from 1976 to the present on all subjects of interest to the U.S. government.
  • Guide to Law Online from the Library of Congress is an extensive, annotated list of resources.
  • IllinoisAtlas.com from the Center for Governmental Studies at Northern Illinois University provides online base maps as well as thematic maps on income/poverty, demographics, crime, etc.
  • INCORE: International Conflict Research website provides links to internet sites focusing on conflicts and ethnicity in various regions of the world. The site also has thematic guides.
  • The National Criminal Justice Reference Service (NCJRS) abstracts database contains summaries of more than 140,000 publications on criminal justice, including Federal, state, and local government reports, books, research reports, journal articles, and unpublished research. Subject areas include corrections, courts, drugs and crime, law enforcement, juvenile justice, crime statistics, and victims of crime. The time period covered is from the early 1970’s to the present.
  • Political Database of the Americas from the Center for Latin American Studies, Unit for the Promotion of Democracy has links to legislation and election laws, political parties, newspapers, governmental agencies, NGOs, and much more.
  • Rand Documents are technical reports and documents analyzing public policy issues. Much of the focus of Rand research documents is on national security issues and defense technology issues.
  • Resources about the U.S. Congress, from the Office of the Clerk of the U.S. House of Representatives, provides links to biographical and historical information on the Congress and links to election statistics.
  • REESWeb: Russian & East European Studies Virtual Library
  • Thomas, provided by the Library of Congress, has a wealth of legislative information.
  • Women in Politics Bibliographic Database contains citations to books and articles dealing with women in politics worldwide.
